The Director Finance and Administration - NRM; Hajjat Medina Naham Ojale, government officials and religious leaders convened at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council to celebrate the inauguration of Hajjat Safina Kenyanji, the chairperson and other leaders of Uganda Women Council presided over by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, yesterday 8th Oct, 2024.

In her maiden speech to the clerics, the DAF thanked the government of Uganda for continuously safeguarding and promoting religious freedom as
enshrined in the 1995 constitution of Uganda.

She asserted that the Islamic faith, as quoted in Surah Al-Maidah verse 2, encourages women to participate in
society and contribute to their communities as
Islam is a religion that advocates for women empowerment in political and economic fields. 

Hajjat Medina also lauded the NRM
government for upholding and appointing Muslim women and men in different high ranking positions of
leadership in this country.

She alluded that Islamic faith also promotes the concept of economic independence as seen in Surah verse 32. It
recognizes and emphasizes women's right to work and earn a living as Men and women have equal
rights to earn and benefit from their earnings in the Islamic law.

The DAF added that, through the economic liberalization and privatization brought by the NRM government in the
1990s, the Islamic faith in Uganda has benefited immensely through the establishment of Islamic
University, schools, Islamic bank, hospitals, businesses, media houses among others.

She concluded by assured the clerics that the government is committed to ensuring that women are represented in decision making and
their voices are amplified.

"Today's theme, the role of Muslim women in socio-economic transformation is a good topic
because it echoes the value of socio-economic transformation preached by the NRM government
over the last 3 to 4 decades and cited that, the government of Uganda will always provide support to the Muslim community in Uganda
through different government development programs and initiatives". The DAF added.
