HON ATIMA JACKSON LEE ON WHY HE HAS TAKEN ON THE INITIATIVE
Hon Atima Jackson revealed in an interview expressed his longtime desire to do something for his people in Arua Central, since he has grown, studied, worked, and invested in the area, for example a good number of youth and women are living hand-mouth which makes it difficult to sustain themselves and their families, which makes hard to live, feed, pay school fees and house them.
He further said that the initiative is aimed at supporting women and youth with seed capital and skills to help them become enterprenuers who can start their own businesses and also create employment for others and contribute towards the development and transformation of communities.
Hon Atima, who also is the government regional chief Whip for West Nile region said he has initiated the project to take care of the youth and women in the division, adding that the youth in this country form a bigger group. They don't only impact on the communities but a big force the country needs in labour, politics and socio economic development of this country.
He noted that a bigger percentage of the women and youth are unemployed, and to unlock this unemployment vice which threatens the social fabric and disintergration of families, it has prompted him to establish a skills development and enhancement centre as well as a fundraising drive to support and empower them, through cooperation with agencies, departments within and outside the country to train, network, and skill the women and youth along with finanical literacy.
The MP said he will disclose the amount of the seed capital for the youth and women during the launch of the fundraising drive. "I have seen and observed the challenges faced by the youth and women". He noted that many youths are tempted to go to the streets, where they engage in crimes because they lack skills and capital to start something that would make them a living and sustain them. Therefore, I have decided to come up with a skills development training projects for women and youth whereby skills development training courses like hairdressing, tailoring, bakery among others will be offered to empower the youth and women. said Atima.
He added that he has decided to do this because he doesn't want a situation whereby the city is developing and the residents/locals are pushed out. The deputy speaker will officially commission a skilling centre and launch a fundraising drive that will be managed by Atima Lee Foundation to help empower and enhance many stranded and redundant youth and women in the division.
